After installing solar on their home in Salisbury, Massachusetts, Ray and JoAnn Whitley open up their home to show people how they can save through green technology:
“80 to 85 percent of what it costs to run the house is paid for by the solar panels,” JoAnn Whitley said.“We save about $4,500 a year. Heating this house with oil used to be about $3,000 a year and our electric needs came to about $1,500. We also get Solar Renewable Energy Credits back from the state. The credits amount to about $1,600 a year we get from Massachusetts. We get that credit for 10 years.
Added together over the past two years, their overall savings is more $12,000, and Whitley estimates they’ll recoup what remains on their initiate investment in the next six months.
