Artforms Inc. is expected to save more than $100,000 in utility costs and eliminate 300,000 lbs. of carbon pollution by converting to long-lasting LED light fixtures, installed by ReVision Energy.
Artforms, located in the back of the Cool As A Moose retail store in Brunswick, has cut its electricity demand by more than 16,000 kWhrs/year with LEDs and is planning to invest in a solar electric array to meet the remaining electricity demand by harvesting Maine's powerful solar resource. Modern, cost-effective LED fixtures are expected to last for more than 100,000 hours of operation.
LEDs offer a compelling combination of environmental benefits, cost savings, and facility improvements. In particular, the light quality is better, reducing eye strain and fatigue. TL Kropp, Artforms' production manager confirms, "I would definitely say it's an improvement - it really does its job. We do a lot of color matching and LED lighting provides a lot of clarity."
ReVision's installation team made sure that Artforms' business carried on uninterrupted. "It was a seamless experience overall. At that point, we were running pretty much 16-18 hours per day and you guys worked around us. We're really happy with the light, and the savings, so it's all pretty good," TL attests.
With a simple payback in under 5 years, LED retrofitting is low-hanging fruit when companies go looking for ways to reduce the cost of doing business. Furthermore, powering LED lighting with solar ensures years of maintenance-free, fixed cost for lighting. The solar + LED model will likely be applied to the Cool As A Moose locations in Provincetown, MA and Bar Harbor, ME.
