Solar hot water used for pool heating at the Causeway Club, Southwest Harbor, Maine

The Causeway Club sits nestled on a pristine piece of land on Mount Desert Island, Maine where ospreys and bald eagles dot the sky, and the Atlantic Ocean's crashing surf is its soundtrack.

Maintaining this natural beauty is a core value to The Causeway Club, which has embraced renewable energy as a way to enjoy economic benefits while helping the environment. They first partnered with ReVision Energy in 2008, when we worked with them to eliminate propane heating from their saltwater-fed pool, resulting in $8,000 of annual fuel savings.

In 2016, ReVision installed 54 solar panels atop The Causeway Club's 100-year-old barn that has hosted their social gatherings and activities since the club's early years. In addition to day-to-day electricity needs, the 15 kW solar electric system powers the super-efficient heat pumps we installed, which provide heating down to -17? F, and cool comfort in the summer months.

Solar electricity systems are reliable and long-lived, offering a warrantied life of 25 years, and an expected operating life of about 40 years. Unlike the traditional electric grid, solar offers a predictable price for electricity for decades, while also improving air and water quality. This suite of benefits makes solar the ideal tool for The Causeway Club as they seek to enter their 2nd century.
