Maine’s first multi-town solar project, a 4-megawatt solar array, generates clean, renewable energy for five municipalities at no upfront cost

This 4 megawatt solar array is the first in Maine to provide power to multiple Maine towns , including Topsham, Rangeley, Rockland, Dover Foxcroft, Vassalboro, and Vassalboro Schools. Solar production from the array will offset electric bills for municipal off-takers at no upfront cost through Net Energy Billing Credits .

Each year, the 10,500-panel ground-mounted array, located in Skowhegan, will produce upwards of 4,853,000 kilowatt hours of clean electricity which is enough to offset the total energy use of 414 homes, or the equivalent carbon offset of more than 4,000 acres of forests.

Here is how the multi-town solar array is divided among the municipalities it serves:

Town of Topsham | 814,964 kWh – 1,763 panels – 16.79% of project

Town of Rangeley | 700,000 kWh – 1,514 panels – 14.42% of project

City of Rockland | 2,352,844 kWh – 5,090 panels – 48.48% of project

Vassalboro Schools | 305,664 kWh – 662 panels – 6.30% of project

Town of Vassalboro | 154,718 kWh – 335 panels – 3.19% of project

Town of Dover Foxcroft | 525,300 kWh – 1,136 panels – 10.82% of project

Total | 4,853,490 kWh | 10,500 (REC 375W) | 100% of project
