City of South Portland, Maine solar energy project installed by local employee-owned contractor ReVision Energy

South Portland’s one-megawatt solar array at the City’s capped landfill (929 Highland Avenue) came online in October 2017. This is the largest municipal solar project in Maine to date. ReVision Energy installed the 2,944 photovoltaic panels on the 34-acre former landfill, which is behind the City’s transfer station and new public services facility. The solar array is expected to generate 1.2 million kilowatt-hours of energy per year, roughly 12% of the electricity used by South Portland’s municipal and school buildings.

The system has produced over 1 gigawatt of electricity in its first year of operation.
