The City of Ellsworth installed eight Level 2 ChargePoint electric vehicle (EV) charging ports at City Hall in partnership with ReVision Energy

Ellsworth, ME – The City of Ellsworth marked a major step forward in clean transportation this week with the installation of eight Level 2 ChargePoint electric vehicle (EV) charging ports at City Hall. The new chargers, now fully operational, are available to residents, visitors, and local businesses supporting the city’s commitment to sustainability and regional accessibility.
The installation was completed in partnership with ReVision Energy, a 100% employee-owned solar and clean energy company in Montville, Maine, and Efficiency Maine, which subsidized the project through a combination of state incentives and federal funding from the Carbon Reduction Program (CFI).
“The opening of Ellsworth’s new EV charging station marks a major leap forward – quadrupling our charging capacity, eliminating the $7,000 annual cost of providing free charging, and instead creating a new revenue stream for the city. This investment not only strengthens our energy infrastructure but also draws more EV drivers into our
downtown, where they can explore our businesses and restaurants while they charge. It’s a smart step that positions Ellsworth as a leader in modern infrastructure and transportation solutions.” Charlie Pearce, City Manager, City of Ellsworth
“ReVision Energy is excited to partner with the City of Ellsworth and Efficiency Maine to bring greater public charging capacity to the downtown area. City Manager Charlie Peirce (sic) and the city council are to be commended for recognizing the ongoing growth of EV’s and the ability to capture the economic development and de-carbonization value for their residents and the State of Maine.” Barry Woods, Director of e-Mobility, ReVision Energy
“Efficiency Maine is pleased to see the City of Ellsworth, in partnership with ReVision Energy, install and operate these public Level 2 EV chargers so both locals and visitors have a place to charge while doing errands and shopping in downtown Ellsworth.” Lily McVetty, Program Manager, Efficiency Maine
“We know Mainers care deeply about the outdoors and the environment. Going electric is one of the best ways to preserve the beauty around us, reduce emissions, and keep more money in our pockets with lower fuel and maintenance costs.” Becca Mantelli, Sales Representative & EV Specialist, Darlings Ellsworth
Ellsworth’s location as a gateway to Acadia National Park and Downeast Maine makes it a strategic site for EV infrastructure. Studies have shown that EV drivers often plan travel routes around charging availability, and communities with visible, accessible chargers see increased tourism spending. In fact, a Michigan State University study found that EV infrastructure planning must account for tourism-driven traffic, as travelers increasingly choose destinations based on charging access benefiting local economies and small businesses.
Local businesses Darling’s and Stanley Subaru joined the celebration, showcasing electric vehicles and supporting the city’s clean transportation goals.
The chargers are located at 1 City Hall Plaza and are available for public use. Photos from the event are available upon request.
