kittery-point-maine-solarThe Rykerson family will host a Solar Open House in their home at 1 Salt Marsh Lane in Kittery Point, on September 14th from 6:00 – 7:30 PM. Starting at 6:00 PM there will be a presentation allowing for questions and answers followed by a tour of the system. The general public is welcome to join and learn about solar energy systems and their ability to lower energy bills and reduce traditional fossil fuel emissions. Thanks to their 4.8 kilowatt solar electric system, the Rykerson’s are producing a large portion of the electricity for their home. ReVision Energy installed sixteen solar panels on the roof of the garage to offset roughly 8,924 pounds of carbon pollution annually. This is the equivalent of preventing 455 gallons of gasoline from being consumed, or 4,320 pounds of coal from being burned each year.

Deane Rykerson explained that, “We designed our garage roof for solar 12 years ago with the idea of waiting until solar was efficient and affordable. Two years ago, the economics made sense and it has been great.”
