Belfast, Maine - Solar Hot Water and Solar Power

This home uses passive solar design principles and active solar energy systems to provide nearly all of its energy needed throughout the year.

Come see for yourself how active and passive solar can help homeowners cut energy bills and still live comfortably. Homeowners Joline Blais & Jon Ippolito will be opening their home to showcase how active and passive solar are meeting their energy needs. A solar hot water system heats their domestic hot water and a grid-tied solar electric installation provides renewable electricity. The home is designed using the Passive House concept, a highly insulated building heated primarily by passive solar gain.

The open house is a chance for those interested or curious about active solar technologies and passive solar design to come and see it themselves. There will be a solar specialist and a passive house architect present to describe how design and energy systems work. A tour of the home will be given by the homeowner; question and answers to follow. Light snacks provided. The event is free and all are welcome. Please plan to meet at the home at 7 pm.

If you have questions please contact Meghan at 589-4171 or email [email protected]. You can find directions to the home at
