EverGreen Home Performance Energy Efficiency MaineHomeowners in 108 Maine towns have financed energy efficiency projects with long-term, low-cost PACE loans since the program was launched one year ago – and that’s just the beginning. Now Efficiency Maine is launching the Federal Housing Administration’s PowerSaver Program (links to PDF) and taking energy efficiency financing statewide.

Homeowners can learn more about financing energy efficiency improvements at Evergreen Home Performance’s PowerSaver launch party and information session, Thursday, April 12, 6-8 pm, at its Rockland office (15 Tillson Ave).

“PACE and PowerSavers are an incredible opportunity,” said Camden Selectman Jim Heard. Heard was the first Camden resident to use PACE to finance an energy efficiency project. “To borrow the kind of money we’re borrowing, amortized over so many years – it makes energy savings really affordable, even when cash flow is an issue.

Under PACE, homeowners in municipalities that have authorized the program can borrow up to $15,000 for up to 15 years. PowerSaver offers larger, longer loans – up to $25,000 for terms as long as 20 years – and a PowerSaver loan can be combined with a PACE loan for a maximum of $40,000.

“PowerSaver will allow us to extend the financing benefits of the PACE program to homeowners throughout Maine, and to help encourage homeowners to realize deeper energy savings,” said Efficiency Maine’s Peter Roehrig.

At the April 12 information session, homeowners will learn how to apply for PACE and/or PowerSaver to gain comfort and cut costs with strategic air sealing, insulation, basement encapsulation, and solar projects. Evergreen Energy Advisors will explain how they diagnose energy efficiency challenges, engineer customized solutions, and install comprehensive upgrades. ReVision Energy will explain how solar energy works and the types of solar energy-driven systems available.
