What to Bring: Flags, Banners, Signs, Props: When we say we’re building a wall of opposition, we’re serious. People should come carrying symbolic “bricks” – make signs and banners and bring props that represent things you care about such as clean water and healthy fisheries. The bigger, more colorful, and more meaningful the better!

Dress the Message:  Wear the clothing you wear when working or playing on the land or water we’re defending. Fishermen, farmers, kayakers, and other outdoor enthusiasts — wear and bring all your special gear to help deliver our message.

NEWS! By passing a resolution on Saturday, Casco voters became the first town in Maine to publically and officially oppose sending tar sands oil through their town and region. Residents of Casco acutely understand the threat tar sands oil would bring to Maine’s environment and economy. Please join Casco residents and others from around the region by demonstrating your opposition to tar sands oil flowing through ExxonMobil’s Portland-Montreal Pipeline.

With companies like ExxonMobil and Enbridge driving new tar sands pipeline projects through Ontario, Quebec, and New England, Maine and our whole region is threatened by toxic tar sands oil. Maine has everything to lose and nothing to gain with this risky proposal. Together, we can show Big Oil that its plan to bring dirty tar sands oil through the Northeast is a losing proposition. Please sign up now and bring your friends!

Tar sands oil is the dirtiest form of oil on the planet and is a growing threat to Maine and the Northeast. We’ll demonstrate our wall of opposition to this risky proposal and call on our federal delegations to ensure there is a full environmental review of this project—because the threats are too great for Maine’s environment, economy, and people.

Just look at Exxon Mobil’s bad oil spill track record to understand why we’re so concerned. Or consider the disaster Superstorm Sandy left behind—with more storms like this expected in the future—and it’s clear the time has come to end our reliance on dirty energy sources. We must stop the eastward flow of tar sands oil—or we may find ourselves forever paying the price.
