Transitioning northern New England to 100% renewable energy is keeping our ~200 co-owners incredibly busy, but somehow we are finding time to create other types of positive change in the communities where we live and work.
Whether providing hope and inspiration to students, helping to feed the hungry or keeping low-income folks warm, we truly believe our individual and collective actions can build the better future we know is possible for ourselves and future generations.
Let us share a few highlights of ReVision Energy's volunteer efforts in 2017:
This year our Portland branch has volunteered many hours for the Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine , packing boxes of much needed food to make an impact in the fight against hunger. Sometimes we're side by side with other Greater Portland businesses like IDEXX Laboratory of Westbrook. It's always good to see other companies giving back as well!
Good Shepherd Food Ban k is committed to providing food to food insecure Maine families, and depend greatly on volunteers to help sort and inspect donations, or assist with nutrition education or packing food for families in need. We are humbled by the kindness of so many.
Our Liberty branch hosted a Community Build in September in partnership with WindowDressers - a nonprofit that builds reusable insulation inserts for windows to help increase energy efficiency in Maine homes. WindowDressers is committed to donating 20% of their inserts to low-income families. All of the inserts are built by volunteers.
The build went so great in Liberty that our team in Portland joined in soon afterwards with an event of their own. In all, there have been 27 Community Builds organized across the state! Our Portland branch has volunteered independently and with Portland Trails this year, and Surfrider Foundation in the past as well, to clean up the beaches and trails that make Greater Portland such a healthy and beautiful place to live.
Cleaning up other people's trash isn't glamorous, but a little bit goes a long way when everybody tries... and a pair of gloves makes all the difference!
