Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern MaineFirst off, a hearty thanks to the people who helped us reach – a few days early! – the 500 “Check in” goal for Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder Restoration.  Our fundraising efforts timed nicely with an incredible run of fish, “thousands upon thousands entering the fish ladder all the way to the top … entering the lake in record numbers” according to the Mills.  The incredible run caught the eyes of photographers across the Midcoast, and some impressive photos are up at the Bangor Daily News.  Thank you all!

This month, we focus our support towards Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine, an organization focused on helping children discover their potential and find their places in society.  ReVision co-founder Phil Coupe is a Big Brother himself, and Portland Marketing Manager Jen Hatch will be running to support them in the Beach to Beacon this year.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine serves hundreds of children each year. They are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of young people by helping them grow up healthy and ready for the future. Since 1995, they’ve matched caring adult volunteers with children to foster nurturing, one-to-one mentor relationships that truly change lives—for both the children and the adults who are involved.

With the nurturing guidance of an adult mentor, every child can achieve and become an active and productive member of the community. It is their mission to ensure that children in Southern Maine who are in need of caring mentors are given this opportunity.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine is affiliated with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, a national federation of organizations serving children, families and communities. With offices located at 195 Lancaster Street, Portland and at the North Dam Mill at 2 Main Street (Suite 17 – 301C) in Biddeford, their program matches area children —”Littles” — with adult “Bigs” who act as mentors by providing friendship, support and guidance during the critical childhood and adolescent years.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine Run for Kids (in the TD Bank Beach To Beacon 10K race) is their midsummer fundraising event. 25 runners/walkers will participate in the event on Saturday, August 4 to raise money on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Funds raised provide guidance and support to children through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and go directly toward matching children with carefully-screened, caring, volunteer mentors.  By doing our monthly ‘Check in’ program you’ll directly support their efforts – $1 for every name submitted through our website.  You can also support by coming out June 18th to Bayside Bowl when 5% of all profits go to Big Brother Big Sisters.
