Batteries Give the Grid-Tied Home Resilience in Power Outages

ReVision Energy's renewable energy projects are frequently featured in local and national newpapers, radio and television.

This solar plus battery storage system, for the Albees in Brooks, Maine, will power their home during a grid outage with an almost instantaneous transition from grid to battery power. The system utilizes hardware from Maine-based smart electronics manufacturer Pika Energy.

The increasing frequency of major storms has an increasing number of our customers looking at supplementing their grid-tied solar array with batteries.

Modern battery systems are cost-competitive with home standby generators, with batteries offering some unique benefits such as being completely quiet, using 'fuel' from the sun, and needing less maintenance over the course of their life. When 100% powered by solar , batteries also qualify for a 26% federal tax credit.

In the latest Journal of Light Construction, Ted Cushman took a look at the home of ReVision's own Jen and Hans Albee, which features a solar plus battery backup system built on Pika Energy electronics and using their custom battery enclosure. The Albees provide an example of how a traditional Maine home can become an independent energy island!
