The Rollinsford Garden and Local Sustainability Club (RGLSC) will host its first annual “Growing Green…Not Your Average Garden Tour” fundraising event in June to showcase organic gardening and sustainability practices happening all around Rollinsford. The eleven participating gardeners will share their gardens and their expertise with the public regarding all things growing, gardening, and living green on the NH Seacoast.
On the tour visit ReVision Energy customers Suzanne Huard and Judy Nelson. They moved into their Portland Ave passive solar home in 1991. There were a few lilacs and some vinca growing but not one inch of established flower or vegetable garden space existed. Even before they unpacked, work began on the first four raised beds. Over the years, garden space expanded rapidly and perennial beds were added. A small greenhouse was owner-constructed on site in 1999. There are now 13 raised beds, a comparably sized ‘field’ garden, some fruit trees, edge of forest naturalizing, and so much more, all fed by Ken Perry’s red worm compost. And in 2011, Suzanne and Judy realized a long time goal and added active solar hot water and electricity to their home with the help of ReVision Energy. Professional solar experts from ReVision will be available on site during the tour to answer questions about the installations.
