Maine USGBC Green Eggs – Multi-Unit Housing and Solar Hot Water

March Green Eggs Maine Green Building CouncilExplore the potential of solar hot water for multi-unit housing projects at our March Green Eggs program.  Using existing Maine projects as case studies, Geoff Sparrow of ReVision Energy will present on the design, economics, and energy savings involved. Nathan Szanton of The Szanton Company will talk about his experience in incorporating solar hot water into his developing projects.

Geoff Sparrow of ReVision Energy

Geoff Sparrow is one of the most experienced solar professionals in Maine, installing systems for ReVision Energy since 2006. A graduate of UNH Geoff is a Mechanical Engineer and holds NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practioners) certificates in both solar thermal and solar electricity. Currently he is the only installer in Maine to hold both of these certificates.

Nathan Szanton, The Szanton Company

Nathan Szanton is Principal of the The Szanton Company. A graduate of Harvard College and UMaine School of Law Nathan has committed himself to creating attractive, comfortable and affordable rental homes for tenants with diverse incomes.

Button Up NH – Weatherization Workshop

Button Up NH Weatherization WorkshopA free “Button Up NH” Weatherization Workshop will be held on Tuesday, February 21st from 11am – noon at The Boulders Campus of RiverWoods at Exeter. The Workforce Housing Coalition of the Greater Seacoast, the Town of Exeter Energy Committee and ReVision Energy are sponsors of this free workshop, which will be facilitated by certified energy professionals who will provide attendees with information and techniques to save money on home energy use.

Home heating prices are predicted to rise by another 10% this season and this workshop will offer information on reducing fuel and electricity use via basic air sealing & insulation techniques, finding technical and financial resources, identifying sources of energy waste and easy do-it-yourself conservation measures.

The workshops are free and open to the public, thanks to funding provided by the N.H. Office of Energy and Planning from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. A total of 40 workshops will be held across NH in the next few months with the hopes of helping NH residents save money on their fuel bills. This UNH-based program is a collaboration with Clean Air-Cool Planet, Plymouth Area Renewable Energy Initiative (PAREI), UNH Cooperative Extension, and the Lakes Region Community College.

Third Annual MABEP Energy Efficiency Training Conference

MABEP Energy ProfessionalsOpen to the public, this is MABEP’s third year of bringing trade people and energy professionals together to network and attend workshops to further Maine’s efforts in energy efficiency.

While geared to energy efficiency professionals, there will be a lot of information of general interest including workshops on five different tracks – building science, what does it mean to be green?, renewable energy, and issues du jour. ReVision will return with in-depth presentations on renewable energy (previous topics have included renewable energy modeling, solar hot water for energy auditors and solar space heating).
